Virtual Worls Spine 2020

Welcome to Virtual World Spine 2020

Ioannis Polythodorakis, MD President, WScS

Dear colleagues and friends,

We are all witnesses to the dawn of a new educational era due to the novel coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic.

This is the year that all major congresses in all specialties, workshops and educational activities that require physical presentation were postponed or cancelled and perhaps there is not one from us who can predict when this will end and we will be able to return to our usual everyday educational life!

On the other hand our era is also characterized by the vast expansion of internet and social media, the development of digital skills for the majority of population (at least to the so called “developed “ countries) and the concept of globalization is more fitted to describe  the globalization of knowledge than other aspects of human society.

In most of the countries there were measures of social distancing, restriction of movement and travel and lockdown as response to detain the virus spread. During this period many of us decided that the online educational activities is probably the best medicine to the pandemic adverse effect  to medical education and so the webinars emerged and became an everyday activity.

The WScS executive board after the initial disappointment from the postponement of World Spine 9 in South Korea  (from September 2020 to September 2021) decided to organize the 1st Virtual World Spine Congress .

As president of our society i am inviting you all to join us to this incredible educational experience.
